Heather Wolfe, "'Remembrance of some English poets': Early praise for Shakespeare the poet," Shakespeare Documented, https://doi.org/10.37078/190.

Folger Shakespeare Library, STC 1485. See Shakespeare Documentedhttps://doi.org/10.37078/190.

In “A Remembrance of some English Poets,” the poet Richard Barnfield praises Edmund Spenser, Samuel Daniel, Michael Drayton, and Shakespeare. According to Barnfield, Shakespeare’s honey-flowing veins produce poetry that pleases the world, and Venus and Adonis and Lucrece have placed his name “in fame’s immortal book.” The ode that follows, “As it fell upon a day,” appears as Shakespeare’s in The Passionate Pilgrim in 1599, but because of its early appearance here, it is now attributed to Barnfield.
